Meaning of abbreviations
What are abbreviations?
Abbreviations refer to an abbreviation formed by the initial letters of a syntagm, i.e., abbreviations are used to abbreviate the name of a specific element or institution in order to save letters or space in the writing.
How are abbreviations formed
Usually, abbreviations are created with the first characters that make up the name you want to abbreviate. Example: FIFA (Fedération Internationale de Football Association)
It may be the case that some abbreviations have several letters of the words of the element being abbreviated, in this case this is called an acronym. Example: UNAMIR (United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda)
It may also be the case that the abbreviations do not match the terms, either because there are similar terms that are already using this abbreviation or because they have some limitation in the use of characters. Example: BCN (Barcelona International Airport)
